Apple Crisp

A classic, no fail recipe for the fall. Great to make during apple season. Easily adaptable to other fruit in season!

Ingredients:

Apple Base:

2 Large Apples, chopped and cubed (peeling is optional)

1/4 Teaspoon Salt

1 1/2 Teaspoon Chai Spice

1 Tablespoon Shortening

1 Tablespoon Honey

1/2 Lemon

Crumble Topping:

1/4 Cup Almonds

1/2 Cup (45 Grams) Oats

1/3 Cup (75 Grams) Unsalted Butter, cold – cut in cubes

1/4 Cup (50 Grams) Dark Brown Sugar

1/2 Cup (65 Grams) Flour

1/2 Teaspoon Cinnamon

1/4 Teaspoon Salt

Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 350F/180C and grease an 8 inch square pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix together apples, salt, chai spice, shortening, honey and lemon.
  3. Pour apple mixture into bottom of square pan
  4. In a food processor, pulse remaining ingredients until course crumb texture
  5. Spread over apple topping.
  6. Bake in oven for about 25 minutes or until you really smell it and the top has nicely crisped. A fork test should find the apples tender.
  7. Serve immediately with ice cream or whipped cream.
